A pleasant surprise (well, I knew it was coming) greeted me at my desk at work this morning -- my iPod! I'm in Chicago, which is a major FedEx hub, I believe (thanks to O'Hare), so smaller cities -- I don't know?

At any rate, it certainly is small and well-built. Very solid feel. The shiny metal back smudges very easily. No way to manually power-off? It auto-powers-off after some inactivity. The packaging is slick and typically Apple-like.

I haven't actually listened to it yet: my Mac and MP3 collection is at home.

Mine's wandering around Boulder, on the truck. Will pick it up at the depot this afternoon.

Agreed. I had to run a lunch-time errand so I swung by the apartment to load up on songs, and the verdict is: great! The supplied headphones are a tad high-end-y, but this is a minor, minor gripe, because it really is a killer piece of hardware.

I'd always held off on an MP3 player as I amassed a large song collection on my iMac, hoping that a high-capacity player would hit the market that wasn't plauged by the interface problems that others like the Archos seemed to suffer from. I think it has finally arrived. Too bad I have something like 15GB of music so I can't benefit from automatic syncing (I know, 'woe is me!')
