The 'manual,' if you can call it that, is really nothing more than a few 'getting started' directions. I think Apple intends for the online Help guide via iTunes to be the official documentation.

Sorry, no Apple stickers.

Just now getting tunes into it... I had 5.5 GB and it wouldn't do anything 'cause there wasn't enough room for all the files. So I dumped some. I'll get to listen in a couple of minutes. 357 songs ought to last the rest of today.

Let us know about these issues: 1. No EQ---a problem?
2. Long play lists---any problems in fast forwarding, etc.? 3. Freezing---does it?

No freezes, pretty loud, listening to Satriani at close to full volume. Little or no distortion. Not really bass heavy, definitely not tinny. These things are gonna sell Macs to the unwashed masses... This is as impressive as the first Sony walkman I tried in 1980. Haven't gotten breakout to start yet but the music is great. Have to figure out the difference between playlists and the "library". Still a bit fuzzy there. Operating it once it has tunes is very intuitive and fast. The first change I'm gonna make is to bead blast the shiny back. Tooooo shiny. I bet this winds up in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, too.
Steve was way too conservative when describing it.

A case may help with the "shiny", fingerprint prone case. This company will have one soon>>> www.jrhillandcompany.com/

The packaging -is- neat, as niko mentioned. One of the most beautifully packaged products I've seen. After you remove the cube's outer sleeve to reveal the silver box underneath, the box folds open in half in the middle. The adapter, instructions, and cable are on one side, and the iPod itself on the other.

The iPod's pretty neat, too, of course!

The packaging is amazing as noted. Mine is currently upping and have done about 2 GBs in 2 min so far. The total space avail is 4.6GB formatted. I didn't realize from the pics, but the front is white similar to the iBook if not identical. The back gobbles up my fingerprints.

The packaging could sell these things alone. It is that good. the power adapter is really small. The only flaw may be that the firewire cord is too long for portability. Almost done upping now.

Mine arrived today too... the packaging is awesome, the presentation makes you feel like you bought something very classy and designed down to every detail. The iPod itself is quite beautiful,as mentioned it's too bad human hands are so dirty. The interface feels SO smooth! I tested the earbuds which sounded okay, but I hate the whole earbud concept to begin with. My Sony MDR-V700 headphones sound awesome with the iPod. We'll see how the iPod does during my 50 minute subway commute to Manhattan everyday next week.

Later,

Got mine today as well. Great packaging I agree!! Good device. 317 songs in under 4 minutes. WOW! This Firewire connection rocks. So far it's just what I wanted.

Hook up to computer speakers in house. Place headphones on on the way out. Hook up to car when I start up. Continuous non interrupted music.

For you lucky souls who have recieved your "pods", it sounds like the fingerprinting is a pain.

Might I suggest coating it with a product called "brillianize". It's a sort of a wax / polymer coating stuff that we have been using to polish motorcycle chrome and stainless steel at the "art of the motorcycle" exhibit at the Guggenheim museum. I have found that it makes the surface quite resistant to dust, scratches, and prints. The downside is that it can also make the surface quite slippery, so hold on tight.

Oh, and one last suggestion. Only use cotton rags. Wool, paper and synthetics can easily scratch a shiny surface.

It's actually much whiter... my room just is too dimly lit I suppose. Looks like the iBook.

The case is just a little pouch that came with my old Nomad and happens to fit the iPod pretty nicely.

I am still waiting for mine, too.
I chose the 2-day FedEx shipping option though, not the Overnight because I've heard that Apple automatically upgrades FedEx shipping to Overnight. What is your shipping option? I'd hate to wait for it till Monday to arrive.

To people who have already received theirs, what was your shipping option?

Fed Ex 2 day. I was actually somewhat surprised it arrived today, though I ended up having to wait until pretty late since Fed Ex accidentally delivered mine to a local CompUSA instead of to me

aaaarrrgh. im so jealous. i want one. theyre so cute i could sht myself. argh. i wish i had that kind of dough as well as the use for one. im either at home with stuff to listen to music with or in my car with stuff to listen to music with or at work with stuff to listen to music with. i dont have a train commute or something that would properly facilitate the use of such device properly.

If it were going to be delivered today, it would say "Placed on van" (or something similar) as status for this morning. Call FedEx at 800GOFEDEX, press * and have the person track it. If it's at the FedEx facility, you may be able to go get it.

For what it's worth: 1. Bought my iPod at the Woodfield (Schaumburg, IL) Apple store this AM. No extended warranty available (I wonder if CompUSA would have offered an extended warranty?). 2. I had not been using iTunes before today, however I was able to move all 3Gigs of Soundjam onto the iPod with no problem.

This is a killer product. Thanks Apple!
