Here is an odd problem I've encountered.

I am using an iBook and a QPS Que! USB CD-RW drive. I recently learned that whenever I flip the lightswitch in the room where I am recording a CD, I get a message from Toast that my connection is unstable and the recording fails (NOTE: Nothing related to the computer/CD-RW drive is plugged in to an outlet controlled by the drive). At first I thought this was probably due to the fact that I live in an old building with old wiring. However, I am currently on vacation and had the same problem occur. I was recording a cd, a light switch was turned on, and bam, I got the "Connection unstable" message along with a nice new coaster.

Has anyone else had/heard of this problem? Does anyone have any advice?

The QPS Que! USB drive is very sensitive to AC/DC electrical changes.

You can try to plug an electrical filter between your Mac, your drive and the socket.

New questions:

Is Que! aware of this "Feature" of their product? I can't say it makes me too happy.

What is an electrical filter? Is this the same as a surge protector? If not can you explain some more and maybe even tell me where I cna get one, what it will cost me, etc.

Thank you.
