LaserWriter won't setup

It appears that Apple has a problem with the 9.0.4 update that is causing major problems for many. This is evident in many of the Newsgroups and on Websites.
B&W G3 with OS 9.0.4 / LaserWriter Select 360
Farralon Iprint ethernet adapter
Unable to setup a Desktop LaserWiter printer, have done a clean install numerous times. "LaserWriter" name shows up in the Chooser, click on "setup" button, goes through it's drill, when it is all over with there is no Desktop printer, there is no Icon next to the Laserwriter in the Chooser, and the default button at the bottom of the Chooser window is still "setup".
Have read all of the TIL stuff, not relevant. Been a Mac owner since 1984 with having purchased over 15 different systems, the one time that I need customer support, I am out of the "90 day" window.
Need help on this ASAP!
Thanks

umm, correct me if i'm wrong, but doesn't the LW 360 have it's own driver, not run through LW 8.7? you might have to re-enable the chooser extension.
just an idea,

I have never used a Iprint adapter. According to the spec on the Farallon site it is to be used with serial only devices and not LT devices. According to my experience, teh LW Select 360 is a LocalTalk device so you want to use a device that converts the LocalTalk to EtherTalk, instead of adding EtherTalk to your a serial only interface. One way to test this would be to take a serial cable and switch your AppleTalk interface to the Printer/Modem port and see if you can see the printer via Laserwriter 8. If you can you have a LocalTalk device and not a serial only device.
If you are communicating with the USB port, you may want to check out some of the posts regarding broken USB drivers, for example on www.macintouch.com, using the MacOS 9.04 update.

Be sure you blow away the following preference files in the System Folder references file folder:
1. Chooser prefs
2. AppleShare Prep
3. And one other file I cannot remember off the top of my head
Restart your machine. Any server you auto-mounted or auto-logged into via AppleShare will be forgotten. You just have to log back in to them manually and reset the auto-mount option. Any printers you had setup will be lost and forgotten. Try setup again. If you get the same response of no setup, double check that you have the PPD for the printer in your System Folder. Under OS 8.x it was in System Folder:Extensions rinter Descriptions. I have not played with OS 9 enough yet to say confidently that is where they are kept. If LW8 was working properly and you did not have the correct PPD then a dialog box should pop up and ask for you to choose one or use the generic one.

The LW 320 and 300 were serial printers. The LW Select 360 was the entry level "workgroup" - read "networkable" printer at the time. I believe it was around late 1984 on into 1985.

I have a Laserwriter Select 360 connected via a Farralon EtherWave Adapter. Currently running 9.0.4 on an iMac. I had no trouble upgrading to either 9.0 or 9.0.4. Previously, I had this running on my 7200/90 under 8.6, again with no trouble.
At one time, I had a problem where it mysteriously stopped working (like described in the post) and I had a devil of a time getting it running again. But it was not due to 9.0.4 or any MacOS release. It was a problem with preferences or settings in other control panels conflicting. I suggest you look in that direction. Make sure ARA is all disabled, if you are not using it, as it has some interactions.
