Hey!
I'm thinking of buying a optical mouse for my iBook running OS X. Has anyone got some advices for me? Logitech, Kensington, Microsoft, Apple?
TIA
Erlend

My Logitech works fine, no drivers needed. It's full size, though--are you looking for something smaller?

I second the recommendation for Logitech. I use the Cordless MouseMan Optical with OS X and is works flawlessly. Freedom from the cord is addictive, as is the scroll wheel.

I'm not quite sure what you mean by full-size, but I'm looking for an optical mouse with two-buttons and scroll wheel.
What Logitech model have you got? I noticed on Logitech's web-page that not all models was OS X compatible...

FWIW I have the M$ optical (not the huge one, the 2nd one down) and works great in OS9 as long as you have the intellipoint software installed.
The 2 extra buttons don't work in X and scrolling is dependent on the program. M$ doesn't have a driver for the mouse in X yet. I'm sure when they do, it'll be good.

There are a couple of small mice out there which are more compact to carry around with your laptop.

Yes there are smaller mice out there for traveling, which are good if you're using your laptop as a true laptop user would, but if you aren't constantly on the go, a normal mouse might be better.

Logitech every time.
If you plan to take your mouse with you out of the house then get the mouseman optical (2 buttons plus a wheel - but with a wire)
If you plan to have a mouse so you don't have to use a track=pad at home then go for the logitech cordless optical number - I use it on my Powerbook g3 and it's great (3 buttons + scroll-wheel.) The only thing is that there isn't any software for it in OS X yet. But that doesn't really matter as OS X automatically supports the wheel and the two buttons under your fingers (but not the third under your thumb).

I also just upgraded to OS X 10.1 on my powerbook G4. Today I got this tiny transparent scroll wheel/2 button optical mouse which worked under OS X 10.1 flawlessly without needing any kind of driver!! The mouse is made by a Japanese company called Elecom. I was so impressed that I paid the heftly price: 400 Hong Kong $ which is like USD55. One thing I love about this mouse is that it also glows a very bright blue. It is bright enough to be a good night lite... I thought it looks really cool.

Does anyone know if the Contour MiniPro Mouse works well in OS X? I especially like the look of the new Titanium version of it.

You should try the Kensigton 2 button scroll optical mouse. I have a Ti Powerbook and it works great under 9.1 and X.1. You don't need the drivers, but there is a beta driver package that allows you to configure the scroll and right-click button. Mine finally freaked out the other night, but then i noticed that Kensington had posted a new driver 1.1b1 (i think). Since then it works fine. It is a mini mouse, but it's still better and cheaper than Apple's mouse

nice and tiny for my Tibook. now my full-size Logitech on the desktop feels like a brick. I'm thinking of switching over full-time.
