I use a TiPowerBook 400 with only one firewire port. Connected to it is a Que M3 60G external hard drive which I bought mostly to store and transfer music to the iPod. It arrived yesterday. The only available port is a second one in the back of the M3. I plugged the iPod into it and iPod appeard on the desktop. But the hard drive disappeared. No sign of it. The iPod could not see it and I could not mount it back. Not even in System 9 (using X here) and not even with the Annubis Mounting Utility that came with it. I thought it had died forever, but a complete shut down, unplug and restart of everything restored it.

Apple now says I can't use the iPod with it and Que says I have to remove iPod Authoring Support from the System Folder Extensions (in System X??).

Does anyone think a firewire hub attached to the PowerBook can accomplish this? Seems to me anyone with lots of music would want to store it offline and transfer back and forth to the iPod. I tell you there was lots of panic there in not getting the drive to show up again.
