I needed a bit more storage on the cheap, so I went over to Best Buy and picked up a My Book Essential Edition HD 160 gig USB 2.0. Everything said it was Mac compatible. It's just a HD, right? I figured there wasn't anything a bit of reformatting couldn't handle. It came as a FAT32 formatted drive.
I know I need to format it for HTS+ or whatever it is, but I can't even get it to mount like all the literature says it should. It doesn't show up on the desktop, and Disk Utility acts like it doesn't exist. What am I doing wrong? Shouldn't Mac OS X be seeing
something?
I plugged it into a spare PC laptop to check it out, and it worked fine there. I read the manual and used the PC to reformat the drive to NTFS, assuming that would fix my problem, but no dice.
What am I missing here? I searched for the answer, but everything said it should mount (maybe as read-only) and then I could reformat it.
Thank you for any help.
