Thought I'd post an interesting bit on shipping.

My wife and I ordered two.

The second of two iPods showed up this morning, the other is here, in town, in a shipping
crate at the airport but the FedEx folks won't retrieve it because it's in an "inaccessible
place that is after customs that won't have personnel there until later today so you won't
get yours until monday since we're closed sunday."

Which stinks because it's here, in town and nothing can be done. And we paid for two day too.

I let my wife have it since I'll get it eventually - but I did take monday off so....there ya go.

Anyone else run into shipping stupidity like this?

Yep, same here.

I watched the fedex tracking site with fascination as my ipod left
taiwan early friday morning (my time) and arrived in seattle 9pm friday
night. it spent no time in customs as far as i could tell.

when i got up this morning it was at my local "sorting facility." since i live nearby i went down to the main FedEx building at the airport and they told me that it was not accessible to them and they would not
be able to get at it until monday.

kind of crazy that it came halfway across the world in less than 24 hours, but i have to wait 48 more while it rots in a warehouse not 5 miles from here.

oh well...

Yes.

I ordered iDVD 2 from Apple's site two weeks ago... it gets shipped, and the FedEx tracking page says delivery on November 6. November 6 came and went. No package. Tracking page says November 7. November 7 came and went. No package. Tracking page says November 8. November 8 came and went. No package. On November 9 I get a phone call from FedEx Home Delivery: "We made three attempts to deliver the package. Call us to reschedule delivery."

Excuse me? I received NO NOTICE that FedEx had been to my apartment three times. That is rather unacceptable. I called them, to schedule delivery for today, November 10. They said it would be at my place by 4 PM... 4 PM came and went... no package. I had to leave. Just got back home, no package, no notice.

I can't call FedEx Ground again until Tuesday.

TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE!!!!!

I checked the Fedex website this morning. By iPod was 25 minutes away. It was scheduled to be delivered on Monday. I called an asked if I could come pick it up. The answer was no. Well this evening we stopped in at the Apple store in the mall and I told them the story. After getting home I got a call from the same Apple store. My iPod was delivered to the store by accident. So back to the mall. I am downloading tunes now. Two days earlier.

Life is good.

I don't quite get this either:

Left FedEx Ramp, TAOYUAN CITY TW, 11/9, 20:54
Left FedEx Ramp, ANCHORAGE AK, 11/9, 16:07
PickupStatus CHUNG HO CITY TW, 11/9 14:47

the madness!! why did it go back? "oh, whoops, we meant to go around the world the OTHER way. clockwise. no, wait, counter clockwise.. no, wait.. just.. to the left, ok?"

Heh, it's called the International Dateline. Mine left Taiwan at ~9 PM local time on the 9th and passed through Anchorage. It arrived in Seattle at ~8 PM local time, also on the 9th. It's currently in limbo. Last known location was the Oakland hub.

make that three iPods if i knew where the sort facility was i'd be
down there banging on the door!

in the past i've had pretty good luck picking stuff up from FedEx after the delivery trucks return to the hub. but i guess this time it's different.

UPS is another matter entirely... you pretty much have to tell them to hold the package and then wait 3 days to pick it up.

It showed up yesterday at 8 a.m. sharp.

In fact, it was a strange situation as I'd slept in and was snoring away - my wife decided to go out to the living room to watch a little TV.

Instead, she curled up on the couch with the cats and fell asleep
and she said she had a dream that the Fed-x guy was at the door.

Two seconds later she woke up and the doorbell rang and the Fex-x guy
WAS at the door! She yelled for me to run to the door (which I did,
half awake) to sign for my shiny new iPod.
