Just food for thought!

Has anyone considered the ability or inability to change out the hard drives in the iPod. How difficult do you think it will (would) be? Granted, we are just now receiving them, but we must think about the future...

Toshiba has already announced a 10 GB drive in the same 1.8 size due sometime next year. So, there will probably be an 10 GB iPod by MWEP NY 2002. Of course, I will be enjoying mine from now till then.

The other problem is getting the little bugger open.
Anybody seen "take-aparts" posted anywhere?
This thing is definitely not meant to be opened.

Well wouldnt you just mount your iPod and transfer all the files from it to your Mac, swap drives then copy back.

Of course unless there would be some problem with the iPod only recognizing x amount of space... guess we wont know until these drives come out and that Japanese website dismantles their iPod again

In OS X using the terminal you can easily see the hidden files on the ipod firewire drive, backing up and transfering back would be no problem, only problem would be if it wont mount.

if someone wants to try, format your ipod and see if it still works.
