I got home from TAFE today, booted my up G4, and what I saw was painful.......

The most blurry image... reds and blues mixed where they shouldn't be. An allround unusable image!!

Is there ANYTHING I can do to fix this? Its only 3.5yrs old, on my G4/466 (was on a beige 233 before). I was hoping it would last atLEAST another 2/3 years..... supposed to be high quality!

Does this mean my screen is dead??

OMG.... I fixed it!

OK a future note on what happened:

THANKYOU APPLEVISION DISPLAY MANUAL!!
The monitor seemed to forget the convergence setting, this blurring the image and adding a red line on the top and blue on the bottom of the text say.

Now my monitor has been forgetting these things as of late... sometimes it forgets my geometry settings. Easy fix, go to monitors, (say I run 1024x768 @ 75hz) i click 85hz then back to 75hz. it brings the memory back lets say...

ahh well. atleast this thread will eventually be archived so others will find out if they have the same problem.

Phew... nearly had a heart attack (at the thought of replacing the monitor)

You are very lucky. I bought an AppleVision 1710 monitor with my old 7500 when they first came out. The monitor went through 5 replacements/repairs before I had one that didn't die within a few weeks. I honestly believe they were replacing them knowing full well that they had a flaw and would die. The last time, when I complained that it was the 5th time it died, the Apple representative apparently didn't like my tone (which was quite reasonable, considering) and disconnected! They were so bad that Apple eventually extended the warrantee on them an extra year. That didn't do me any good when it died again a few months ago. I have a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering and know my way around this sort of stuff, so I repaired it myself (spooky, and very dangerous, too - DON'T try this at home, kids!). I guess I have some hope it will last a little longer, but I think I'll finally be getting something else before the end of the year. The 1710 debacle ruined my opinion of Apple, but at least my 7500 has been rock solid ("Val-4" and all) and it's still my main machine, albeit with a 300 MHz G3 upgrade.

Cheers!
