Hi,

Has anyone tried the Logitech Cordless Mouseman Optical and OS X? It look really cool, and the 4 buttons are good for games. But how does it work in OS X? What do you think?

Well, I tried it out. For games, it's definitely a very poor solution. Even though it has no cord, it's wireless technology that broadcasts at a slow rate is very choppy and laggy. If you're doing basic tasks like Word or browsing the Internet, I imagine it's fine, but for gaming, it's not viable at all.

It looks really cool and is ergonomically pleasing, but still, this mouse is hell for games.

I'm not sure if this of any intersest but, I'm using a Logitech Optical Wheel Mouse, (NOT cordless) and I'm really pleased with it.

Anyone know what the battery life is like with those cordless mice?

MrBenn,

I think that i saw on Logitechs site that the batteries would last about 3 months regular use.

seanyepez,

Ok, since I am going to play a lot of games, can you recommend any mouse for that? I have had a plain 4 button mouse from Logitech and I was wery pleased with it.

3 Months? I can live with that. I don't use my Mac for games as i have a PS2, so I might give a cordless a try. Thanks Stefan.

The absolute best mosue out there is the Logitech Wheel Mouse (optical blue one). It's a great mouse. It's light, has a great build, owns for games...

If you're going optical mouse, this is the one to buy. Either this one, or the same thing in a beige enclosure. I know they're marketing it as the Logitech Optical Mouse, and I think it's basically the same thing. Those bastards might have discontinued the Logitech Wheel Mouse (optical blue one). The blue one is/was so stylish...

I dominate Quake servers with my Logitech at my side.

Something we overlook a lot of the time are mousing surfaces, which leads me to...

Well, MrBenn, the mouse is really heavy because it has radio hardware and batteries inside. It also is plagued by heavy skipping. I would still go with a regular corded mouse. The wireless optical mouse is very expensive, too.

seanyepez: I'm sorry to hear about your bad experience with a cordless mouse, but my Logitech Cordless Optical Trackman has been a dream to use.
The wireless system is flawless, the battery lasts _more_ than three months of constant use, and the optical mechanism is great too.

The only situation where the wireless connection becomes laggy is in the few hours before the battery dies. Have you tried changing your battery?

Oh, and pretty well all USB mice work in OS X, with left and right clicks and partial scroll wheel support. Other buttons might not work for now, however.

Hey Mac Guru

It looks like a really cool mouse, how many buttons does it have? (are those buttons on the side of it?) And the software, is it for Mac? Do you have the 1000 or the 2000 version of it? (1000 questions.. )

Anyone else tried it?

Thanks Stefan

Guru, you think I haven't tried it?

When I say I've tried everything, that includes the Razor Boomslang 2000. I've tried two of them, actually. Both sucked hard.

That mouse is the most unstable, unreliable piece of junk I've used. The second one's rollers squeaked after a few days of play, and the first one didn't work at all. I never got about to returning it, either.

The company that made the mouse, Karna LLC, went out of business, to boot.

The mouse was $99. It's overpriced for the junk it is. It takes at least a week, if not two, to get used to this mouse. The mouse is sensitive, but physical ball technology isn't precise enough to support this kind of sensitivity. I want to try a Boomslang 1000, though.

Good luck finding one, let alone using one.

The opticals take the trophy for gaming now. They don't have physical wear, don't require cleaning, and are genenrally lighter than any other mouse conceived. Well, they do. The buttons/scroll wheel get lose, but, other than that, the tracking mechanism is without wear.

The Boomslang is a 5-button mouse. The scroll wheel is so tight, though. It's a strange piece of hardware. I'd stay away, but you have to try it and see if you like it. I've heard people hating it and I've heard people loving it.

Ahh, everywere I see people love AND hate the Razer Boomslang.

I'm going to try it out. (the 2000) Just to se what all the fuzz is about. Gamegear in Sweden has over 1000 bomslangs in stock.

How about Mac OS X support? Anyone know when USB Overdrive is about to ship? And a link to their website?

Thanks

I've heard more hate than love in my experiences with other players who have used the Razer Boomslang. By the way, it's Razer.

I suppose if you use it enough, you'll develop a liking for it. You will successfully deter all visitors from using your computer unless you attach some sort of sane mouse to the box, since the Boomslang 2000 is approximately five times more sensitive than a regular ball mouse/optical mice.

Good luck. The mouse develops physical imperfections after a short while. It's too expensive to be viable for a standard design, I guess.

I got a Razer Boomslang (2000dpi) before it was even offered w/ Mac support and after 1 month the button started sticking. I got a 2nd one sent to me, and after 1 month the button started sticking. It's poorly constructed.

I'm happy w/ my Logitech WheelMouse Optical (blue).

I happen to like kensingtons mosue in a box pro mouse. It has been working flawlessly in both OS 9 and X. Works great in Unreal Tourn.
