Okay, this is a weird one. I've tried everything I know....maybe someone else has an idea.

I have a Microtek 3600 USB scanner which works great with our iBook (rev B, blueberry, running 9.1). Plug it in, it scans, no problem.

But when I plug it into my new G4 tower (466 mHz, also running 9.1), it doesn't work. The Scanner Detector sees it, but when I launch ScanWizard, it tells me that there are no scanners available...and that the scanner is having problems communicating with the computer.

I have tried moving the main folder around to different locations, downloading the newest version of ScanWizard, even copying the working copy of the software and extensions directly from the iBook to the G4. I've tried unplugging and plugging the USB cable, and changing which USB port it's connected to. Nothing works.

Any ideas, anyone? Thanks!

I figured this one out myself after a lot of plugging and unplugging.

Basically, it appears that the drivers for the ScanMaker 3600 and my Newer Technology uDrive don't "like" each other. If the uDrive is plugged in on startup, I can't access the scanner. If, however, I leave it disconnected from USB, I can access the scanner - and then I can plug in the uDrive and use it from there.

It doesn't matter if the two peripherals are on different hubs, different ports, or anything - if they're both there on startup, I can't scan.

Annoying, but workable.
