Hi. finally bought the G4 733 Quicksilver tower I had been promising myself and life is wonderful but for one thing. The audio pinput on the back of the G4 is for Apple pro Speakers ONLY. I have a set of very good Sonys and would rather - er - recycle. Only theri conventional audio input cable will not fit into the G4 speaker socket.
Anyone know of an audio - USB converter socket? A little hood I could put on the end of the cable to use the speakers with the USB port? Have been calling Auio stockists in the UK without success so far, except that they say such things exist. Leads for BUYING one would be very welcome.
Thanks

I can't freakin' believe it, as my sons would say...can U beeleeve that I'm having the same sort of bad-speaker-plug day???!!!??? I too wanted to hook my new G4 up to my stereo...ya hey dere, dat audio speaker plug is too dern small for my 1/8" standard stereo mini jack, eh? What gives?
Truth be told, you can use the headphone output...it's a standard
1/8" mini plug, matching the jacks many headphones have. But the "speaker" connection? I don't know what it is. I'm gonna go into my arsenal of wierd connectors and see if I've got something which fits it. Because try as I might (well, OK, I only looked for 15 mintes, but that was long enough), I couldn't find any sort of size info (you know, the actual configuration information for the size and type of plug used) on the Apple info website. Found plenty of product specs...just no actual numbers about what size the dern thing is.
Any help in this area will be greatly appreciated...WHAT SIZE IS THAT AUDIO SPEAKER PLUG, ANYWAY???

Ok I admit it. I was too lazy to take the headphones out of the headphone port and use that. Have done it now, but will probably order one of them thar iMic things. It is £35 in the UK, which is even more than $35!
Thanks to all respndents. Also to Jazman - the port is for Apple Pro speakers ONLY. I think it's a special APPLE port from outer space. How exclusive can you get?

The Apple 'Pro' jack is a 1/16th jack-the same size found on many Cell phones for earphone/mic sets. I'm not really sure if it will work with just any speakers, but you can certainly get an adaptor from 1/8th to 1/16th at Radio Shack or someplace and give it a shot. I suspect it may screw up other speakers, as it's designed to actually provide power to the the Apple Pro speakers.
I just use the headphone out jack with a decent audio system. Works fine, and I plug my headphones into the audio system itself, not the Mac, when needed.
I have an Griffen iMic also, plugged into the keyboard, because I needed audio input-- but I'd much prefer a dedicated audio in jack, rather than that useless 'pro' audio jack.
