I have a new Brother 1270N printer on my home network. It is a great printer, and lets me configure it through the web browser like my Linksys Router. I was wondering if there is a way to change its device name. Currently, its name is BRN_32CCE5_P1_AT and I would rather call it something more descriptive. I assume there is a utility that will allow me to do this either under OS 9 or X.

Not sure if it will work with a Brother printer or not, but you could try Apple's Printer Utility software. I've used it to rename my LaserWriter Pro 630, but I don't know if it can rename non-Apple printers.

It comes with your system software usually. Check your accessories folder (or do a Sherlock search) or look on your system CD.
