I went to my local CompUSA Saturday, just to check out the iPod, and was so impressed that I went ahead and bought one, plus the 2-year extended warranty. I think it sounds great, and the concerns over lack of bass to be misfounded (for my tastes).
That said, the store had 7 units, had sold 2 by about 11 am. One of those buyers was a PC user who I talked briefly with. He said that he had several MP3 players, plus had one of the juke box players, and that the iPod was by far the best of the bunch. (He had started using it yet though...) He thought the price was very reasonable. He didn't have a Mac, but the guys there at CompUSA were in the process of taking his MP3 files and loading them into the iPod for him. He said he was taking a chance...hoping that Apple would come out with PC/Windows support soon. I told he he ought to go ahead and get a matching iBook, and he said he was thinking about it.
The general impression I got from the few people I talked to...those people who had a large CD collection and wanted to have a way to carry alot of it with them, thought the iPod was reasonably priced. Those who were less serious about having their music with them, and were looking at it more as a neat gadget, thought it was too expensive.
My thoughts...I love it!
