Anyone spot this in the iPod's tech specs?
Operating temperature: 32° to 113° F (0° to 45° C)
Does this mean I can't use it outside in winter because the battery can't handle the Minnesota cold, or is this just one of those things where Apple didn't test it below freezing?

Many electrical devices (Personal CD players etc) state this. Keep the iPOD in an inside pocket close to you body heat and it won't be a problem no matter how cold outside it is.

BTW, you MIGHT find that the battery life will be reduced in low temperatures. There isn't much you can do about this, other than keeping it close to your body heat. I am afraid that this problem of the cold and batteries affects everything with a battery...........as you will know living in MN and owning a car etc.

I expect you'll probably also see much poorer response from the LCD screen in colder temperatures. You should see my Palm's screen after I leave it in the car overnight in a Scottish winter
Don't think mild cold can do an LCD any *permanent* damage though.

Was reading this other thread in the Powerbook forum, about how the Powerbook conducts electricity.
Perhaps it is not a bad idea to watch how close one puts the iPod to the body as it might send little jolts of electricity
And if the iPod gets as hot as the Powerbook, it could double up as a portable heater
