Hi there,
I think Apple has a serious problem.
Because of their unique ADC plugs on thier new LCD's, people with older computers (well not even that old)can not use the new displays, but are forced to get other brands.
Well my problem is that I have two G4/450 (AGP Graphics with VGA display port) and I would like to buy two Cinema displays.
I have just been in contact with Apple here in Japan and they told me I could only use the displays if I got some 3rd party adapter product. The person I spoke to (and Apple, she said) did not know if a product like that did exist or where to find out. As it would not be an Apple product, they would not be able to advise me.
So buttom line is: Apple is loosing out on ¥600000 ($ 5000) because of some non standart plugs unless someone can help me with finding an adapter.
Does anyone out there have any advise for me how and if it is possible for me to connect the displays. I have heard about the Dr.Bott DVIator, but that is for DVI ports and not VGA.
I am not willing to get new graphics cards as I might upgrade the computers within the next year. My monitors are getting old and need urgent upgrading and I really hope my money could go to Apple!!!
Hope to hear some good news from somebody (that knows more taht Apple)!

Sorry I missed one other important point.
I also have a TI G4 powerbook on which I would like to be able to sometimes connect one Cinama display for presentations to my clients.
The Powerbook seems only to have a VGA port and not even a DVI port.
How can Apple add the option to plug-in an extra monitor on thier powerbooks and not even make sure people can use Apple monitors.

VGA is analog. Apple's LCD displays are digital. You need some form of digital output from your video card to use the Cinema displays you want to use.
Since you are planning on spending a lot of money to get two of these in the first place why is it such a big deal to have to buy a graphics card with digital out for less than 105 of each Cinema displays cost? Plus you said you have an AGP mac. Don't the AGP macs that pre-dated the one's with an ADC and VGA connector have both a VGA and DVI connector? If not like I said go buy a card that has a DVI or ADC port.

You can buy Dr. Bott's ADC to DVI converter to hook each ADC monitor up to the old style DVI ports. http://www.drbott.com I think it's about $150 US It won't work on the 17" ADC CRT's, btu that's not your problem anyway. It should work fine on the Cinemas.
As for the Ti, you're stuck. Yup, I have a Ti and there is only one way to do it, and it's DAMN expensive (like almost $1,000 extra) so it isn't worth it. Apple really did something stupid not allowing their own laptop line to support their own monitors. If you really must have a Cinema on your Ti, email me or IM me and I'll post it here...
good luck and just know that I hate you because you have enough money to buy 2
