External hard drive does not mount?

I have a Lacie USB external hard drive. Although it is formatted for Mac, it does not mount on my Mac Mini, but will mount on my Windows machine (but will not be recognized). This tells me that the hard drive and cables work. Any suggestions on how to get this to work on my Mac.
