Hello. I have an XRouter and I'm having problems.
Why did I get an XRouter? Because $240 extra a year for 2 additional cable modem accounts is friggin' ridiculous.
What's my problem? I hate the firewall. Plain and simple, I don't need it, but it's there. Why is it bad? Because I can't sent files on IM or do Timbuktu because incoming access is blocked. (I know, I think I can specify ports to be opened, like 5190 for IM, but that's more work than I want to do). Honestly, if I could just turn the firewall off completely I would. But I can't.
Yes, I know that if I set a static IP below 100 (XRouter's default DHCP starting point) such as 192.168.1.50 for my PowerBook, and then set the DMZ on the XRouter for that IP (so it opens the firewall completely), it will work. But guess what... it doesn't. As soon as I set my IP staticly to that addy with the same router addy and subnet, my internet stops working. And I can't figure it out why.
Please! Help!

If you don't like firewalls and don't want to learn how to enable special applications (Timbuktu)... I doubt anyone can help. FireWalk X enables and allows you to configure OS X's firewall quite nicely. Netopia has a page on what ports are used by what programs. Just logon to the router and configure it for QuickTime, whatever you want to do.
And please, if you really hate it and have to tell us... turn off the computer. And may Code Red X never visit you - or your Timbuktu be taken over.
Have a nice day.

Holy over-reacting Batman! Chill out for a second before flying off at a perfectly harmless post. And, for the record, I don't like firewalls, but someone (less anal than you) was able to help me set it up with Special Apps and such.
Anyway, I was playing with Special Apps (in XRouter config) as I posted this, though I didn't think it would work and wanted to get some other ideas. However, I did tweak it to open the ports and such that I needed (using the Quicktime example that's provided) so that everything seems to work now (thanks Ciph) the way I want it to, and I still have minimal firewall stuff to keep Timbuktu'ers out and such. So the moral of the story is that I think I got it working, but if anyone wants to post anything else, go right ahead.

Funny, I have an Xrouter and I have ZERO Firewall problems with the default settings. My AIM works 100%.
