Any suggestions, looking for a good inkjet. I've basically narrowed it down to an Epson or HP, the HP 932C looks intimidating (2400x1200 dpi). Any suggestions over there? My Epson stylus color 800 is pretty much broken (black ink system died) and was very nice, now I must move on for then next level of printing Price range is 100$-250$ for me.

I can first off recommend AGAINST getting a Canon bubblejet.
Epson printers have worked admirably for me, and I've had about 5 of them, from the Colour Stylus 600, to the Photo 700/750 and the 850 (model names here in HK might be slightly diff. from those in the US)

I have had the same problem crop up on 2 different Epsons though, and that is the paper gets dragged into the printer by one side and thus gets all torn up inside. Having been fixed by Epson, they said it was a 'dirty paperfeeder'. Whatever. I think its maybe a design fault that needs to get remedied. This problem however only occurred very rarely and was not related to the humidity we have here.

I have never had an HP inkjet/deskjet but am leaning more towards the idea of getting one as my next printer, to see what they're like.

I had a HP very briefly and hated it! Now, I have an Epson and love it! It prints amazing photos!

Lexmark are beyond crap! Buy an Epson 740, 760, 870 or whatever(they change so quickly).

Also I would be extremely cautious about buying any HP stuff for Mac as regards proper drivers and support, just search the archives if you don't know what I'm talking about. I wouldn't buy HP on moral grounds either, but that's another story.

I am delighted with my(discontinued)750. Next purchase will be the 1270

Well, after reading reviews and such, and after being sick of the constant break downs of my Epson SC 800, I decided to go with an HP 950C, looks promising, and reviewers recommend such products.

I wouldn't be so quick to prejudge HP printers these days.

Yes, in the past HP's printer drivers have been terrible. Their most recent ones -- on a *couple* of new printers -- are much better.

I was somewhat surprised when installing and testing the HP 840c printer to discover the people who wrote the driver were none other than the original writers of Fax STF! The programmers then went to Supra to write modem software (I guess) and are now out on their own writing software. They're over at http://www.idevelop.net/profile.html

According to their website, they also wrote the drivers for the HP 970c. I have no experience with the 970c, but can say the 840c drivers have been extremely stable. There may be other drivers these guys have written for HP -- HP has apparently outsourced their Mac OS driver writing to them.

Maybe a few others with HP printers could check in?

I acquired the HP 950C printer and I must say, I am impressed. Insanely fast speeds on draft mode, heh, nice high quality mode, easy setup and all. The software is nice actually, follows appearence manager guidelines and all that stuff. I would recommend this printer.

I have an HP970 and am quite impressed with both the hardware and the software. I did have a little trouble after updating from OS 9 to 9.0.4, but a clean install took care of that.

I had an Epson 740 before this one and while it was a good printer, this one is better.

I have had two HP printers in a row, and, although good, leave much to be desired. My first, a DeskWriter 660C, was CRAP. Something was wrong with the printhead driveshaft, causing it to make a horrible clicking noise that offset reams of text. My current printer, a DeskJet 810C (promotion from Apple with G3s a while back) is good, and prints pictures very well, but the text bleeds a LOT, and I've tried many different paper types. It's very quiet, though.
and play the game existence to the end

It was true that HPs sucked, making Epson a leader, but now a days, HP, I find it much better. the 900+ series are definetely better than my old Epson SC 800 (which was awesome in itself), hands down, everything is crisp and beautiful, even on super low quality mode (uh, maybe thats an exaggeration).

Hey, the HP 970cse is a sweet printer, especially with cheap paper. Not as good with the premium glossy. The only problem I had was that I couldn't get it to run through a hub, powered or not. It will only work if connected directly to iMac. Software updates through HP website is a breeze.

I can add an additional nugget of info for those who are interested.

Having recently dealt with HP here in Hong Kong, I can vouch that I will *never* buy a HP printer.
The entire experience, as a customer, dealing with their customer support left alot to be desired and I was sorely unimpressed with both their poor conduct, inefficiency, don't-give-a-s___ attitude and exorbitant inspection and repair fees (exorbitant even by HK standards).

Gentlemen, present Dollars. Epson! Epson!

I highly recommend the Epson 740. I got mine from Staples.com for $69 following the directions listed in the macdeals page of this site.
I used an HP 550c for years and was happy with it, but printers have come so far since then it was time to upgrade. Gave the HP to my daughter who still uses it daily.
Never argue with an idiot. They'll drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

The 740 is actually a lower end printer, not exactly built for speed.
