I recently purchased a Global Village VideoFX from MacResQ for $20 for use with my Power Book G3/333 (128MB/4GB); price-wise it is a fantastic value for its intended purposes, but I am having some trouble achieving the performance I desire. I am hoping some kind individuals experienced with the VideoFX or video capture in general can help me out...

First, I am having some trouble determining what compressor I should use to capture the video. In all of my experiments, the only one which can produce close to 30 fps at 320 x 240 is the USBVision Component Video compressor; however, it requires 3 MB per second. I was hoping to fit each of my ten minute clips on a CD-R. The other compressors I've tried (e.g. Cinepak, Sorenson) seem unable to break 10 fps. Is there a compressor that can produce a good mix of quality and file size?

Second, I purchased the unit fully aware that Global Village had gone out of business and thus would never produce a driver for Mac OS X. However, it would of course be nice to be able to use it without rebooting--is there a generic video capture driver floating around somewhere that might work?

Thanks in advance for your help!
