I am using a Sony USB CRX100E CDR with Toast under OS 9.1. I would like to use the burner with iTunes in OS X. According to the Apple website, this burner is supported in OS X with firmwarte version J. Currently, my burner does not work in OS X. The problem appears to be that my current firmware is not supported.

Sony offers a firmware upgrade on their website but the upgrade must be run through windows. If I upgrade the firmware using my windows laptop, will my Mac recognize the upgrade?

It should work just fine. Firmware isn't system specific but most companies only release firmware updaters for windows. It should work just fine.
