In the middle of doing something on my G4, my 4-month-old Intellimouse Explorer froze. No big deal, but when I restarted, the red light on the bottom was blinking steadily, about 90 blinks per minute. Then it no longer works--the cursor is frozen on screen. I've tried unplugging and replugging it and restarting, but that doesn't work.

Microsoft's Web site has nothing that refers to the problem and when I try to upgrade the drivers I find that the Macintosh ones no longer exist (page not found.) (BTW, what is it with the I.E. that when you unplug it --when it's working, that is--and replug it, it won't work again until you restart? I have a cheap Canadian USB mouse that works fine after being unplugged and replugged.)

So now I'm looking at a dead $60 mouse. Anyone else have this problem?

I believe there is a lifetime warranty on this. Try calling M$. There are people who have gotten their replacements foc.

tonbo,

Definitely go through the MS support channels and report your problem, because they will give you a new mouse. As it says on the box, it has a lifetime warranty. I've done this twice with the Intellimouse Explorer (both had faulty wire connections where the mouse cable enters the mouse...coincidence, or just crappy design/manufacturing?) Needless to say, when my first mouse went out, I was pissed. Went through the MS support channels, posted my problem, and within about a week, MS shipped a new mouse to me, didn't even have to send the broken mouse in.

good luck,

tr
