Has anyone had any success using an iPod over a 3rd party firewire card? I'm on a Beige G3, with a USB/Firewire PCI card. I would love a 20gig iPod, but can't justify a new mac quite yet. If this is currently possible, could Apple remove this feature with a firmware update? Apple's done some stuff like this before (RAM stopped working on G4's after firmware updates etc...), so I wouldn't be suprised.

Also, I'm guessing the new 10 & 20 gig iPods would work fine on OS9 still. iTunes 3 may be OSX only, but the new iPods should still run fine under iTunes 2 and OS 9 right?
Thanks in advance!

I've been using a 5 GB iPod on a PowerMac 7600 with an Adaptec firewire card. The software is OS 9.1 and iTunes 2.0.4. Everything works perfectly.

I wouldn't expect any problems whatsoever with your setup.

I have a friend using one on a beige G3 with a OrangeMicro USB/FW card running OS X and it works fine for him. I don't know that he's used it with OS 9, but I don't see why it wouldn't work.
