The only way to know is to call Steve Jobs and ask but I don't think he will tell you.

I'm in the market for a 30" model. Apple's 30 is not the best on the market now due to it's high price as well as its specs.
I would like to see Apple introduce new models soon with more pixels per inch. If it doesn't happen within a month or two I'll probably order the HP LP3065.
I'm curious if anyone has heard anything about LCD panel makers gearing up for higher ppi displays. Most have been at about 100 ppi for quite some time now.

iDaver, check Apple.com again. The prices have been lowered since the Mac Pro came out. The current monitors are still in the middle of their product cycle, so it should be a good while before we see an update.

There have been a few price drops on the 30" Cinema Display since it was introduced at $3299 in 2004. While it's now $1999, currently, HP's is $1699 and Dell's is $1250. HP's is a superior display and Dell's is about equal.
Apple's displays look pretty pitiful in today's market. The design is nearly three years old and the prices are too high.

But they also offer terrific OS integration and much better styling (IMO) then any HP or Dell as well as a FireWire hub.

I don't know what you mean by OS integration.
I won't argue that Apple's displays don't look better than others however if I get a much better panel in a HP display for $300 less, I can surely do without the aluminum and one extra Firewire port. I have debated whether or not to get the Dell 30" but it's the same panel as the Apple and even though it's a huge $750 less, I don't want Dell on my desk. I may yet change my mind though.

By OS integration I mean that you can turn on and off and sleep the computer by using the power button on the display as well as seeing the brightness dialog when using the brightness buttons.

For what its worth, the Dell monitor is a lot heavier than the apple one (35 lbs vs 27.5 lbs) and has a bigger foot print as well. It also sucks a few more watts (177 watts max vs 150 max watts)
