Hello, my room mate just bought a Rev. A iMac on ebay. He's new to Mac's (actually, computers in general), and want's a CD burner.
I'm still using a SCSI CD-R, but what's the best USB CD-RW? I know USB limits the burning speed to about 4x correct? He would prefer one that works in iTunes. Burn-Proof tech seems like something that would be helpfull on a slow Rev A as well. Of couse, $$$ is important, so a good deal is helpfull.

Any suggestions?

You're right, it won't burn at much higher than 4x speed through USB.

Just buy a cheap 4x USB CD-RW. (USB 1.1 NOT 2.0)

Here's an Iomega one for $60:

If you go for something less 'stylish' in just the usual drab case, you can get a 4x USB CD-RW for as cheap as $30.

i also recommend plugging it in on the side of the iMac, and not the keyboard...

I own a rev A imac, and also own the Lacie USB burner. I burn at 4x every time and have never had a single coaster, its by far the best usb burner for rev a imacs.

I've had pretty poor experiences with various Iomega products in the past (including 2 USB CDRW drives). I would recommend looking at another brand (I hear Lacie is good).
