I'll pass this on FYI. Those of us with pre-USB Macs have potential problems in buying a printer today. Some are not designed to work with USB ports provided by a PCI card. It is difficult to find this information, and most of us would never think to look for it. Those using a Wintel PC can always fall back on the old parallel printer port if USB does not work for them. Mac users cannot. I got the following email regarding my printer.
"Thank you for your inquiry. I am sorry to hear about your trouble with the printer. Communication issues like the one you describe often occur when the printer is connected to a USB add-on card. They do work slightly different then built in ports and all of our printers are designed to be used with built in USB ports.
Thank you for your interest in Canon. We look forward to assisting you in the future."
It does actually print with my particular collection of equipment, but not all features work. Someone else may be less lucky.
