I recently bought a RATOC firewire/USB PCI card for my
beige G3 (it used to run at 233MHz but I just upgraded it with a XLR8
G3/400MHz). The USB ports of the RATOC card work fine as they handle my
flash card reader nicely. What I can't get to work is the firewire
ports. I have hooked up a 30Mb ClubMac firewire drive and, to the
other port a firewire Yamaha CDR-WR. Neither seems to mount! I have
tried to re-install the firewire extensions for the card. I also
re-installed all the software for the two drives. I did all the
permutations of "drive off, computer off, disconnect, turn on drive then
computer then plug in cable etc, etc" that I could think of and I have not had joy! I thought perhaps I did a crummy job installing the card, but it
seems that if the USB ports work it's very unlikely that I screwed
something up there. Does anyone have have any suggestions?
I'm running 9.0.4 and I have 224meg of RAM installed.

OK, I found 90% of the answer to my question: The firewire firmware that came with the card was outdated. I found/downloaded v.2.5 from the Apple website and now both drives mount fine. Unfortunately, now my Turbomouse no longer works (aaaaghhhhh!). I'll have to see if Kensington has a new driver for the mouse - perhas that'll fix it? It's NEVER easy!
