Just replace the oem optical drive for my 15" 1.67ghz HS PB with a similar drive by Panasonic from owc:
OWC MercuryPBG4 SuperDrive Dual-Layer KIT... (OWCMPBG48XDL) at OWC
Upon starting the PB the sreen just show the ?folder.
These are the things I have done:
Reset PRAM & PMU.
Try to start from 10.4 CD.
Use my other PB as FW
Reformatt the whole HD.
Nothing works. When the drive is diconnected from the logic/mother board the PB runs solidly.
I need the drive to work. Is there an iDE controller in a PB? ANy suggetion? Or is the OD a lemon?

There should be a Master/Slave/Cable Select setting on the drive. It may be set incorrectly, probably Master. Should be Slave or Cable Select.

That's all I can think of. Good luck.

GORDY I absolutely agee with you. The PB runs without the DVD connected and , get this, the DVD drive function properly without the HDD connected to the mother board. So much for the guru at OWC insisting that the two connections are independently assigned ie non Master/Slave issue. Any scripting expert out there that can write me something to that effect?
