I'm having a problem with my iSub (on a 2001 400Mhz) which I've searched for info on, but found little - except for 2 reviews which both indicated the same problem. Nothing on the apple site seems to help, either.

Basically, all works well most of the time, except for half-second or so dropouts of sound while playing (mostly when switching apps, and especially when loading too), for example if I load photoshop while playing mp3's I'll hear 10-15 dropouts until loading's done. Apart from this, sometimes the sub will just stop working until it's unplugged & replugged in. I'm tempted to think it's a memory issue, as at the moment I only have 64Mb (another 256Mb arriving tomorrow), as the iSub was delivered a week before the iMac, so I used it at work on a 350Mhz blueberrywith 96Mb - the same problems were there, but happened far less often. here, the sub just stops at least 3 times a day while the small dropouts happens fairly regularly.

any clues?

tia

Someone reported that the iSub would pop with virtual memory turned on...so you're probably on the right track.

I have the Apple Pro speakers and the iSub and have been very pleased...but i have 512MB Ram and have VM turned off.

Turning virtual memory off worked perfectly for the popping, thanks . Of course with 64Mb until the extra arrives, it doesn't allow for much else! Not to worry - In time I plan to go to 512 which should give me all the space I need for now.

Does rebooting solve the problem of the iSub stopping? My iSub is lovely except for the fact that it stops working a few hours into a work session, and needs rebooting of the computer before it will function again.

Do you have the sound effects on the platnuim. This sounds like the same problem as watching DVD with the platnuim sounds on, it pops, try turning them off and restart the computer, its worth a shot

I'm not using any sound effects at the moment, although the problem still persists. Any ideas on why?

I did start by rebooting to fix the dropping out problem, but found it wasn't needed when I could unplug & replug the sub.

This is still happening for me - sometimes I can go hours without a problem, other times the iSub will just stop working 3 times in the one track - it happens with CD's and with MP3's also.

what usb port are you useing if you use the monitor there might be a power loss issue I would have it pluged into the computer directly and draw power off of the computer. try it and see how it works

I have my iSub plugged directly into the back panel of my G4 minitower, so it's as direct as it can get. Still have these problems. *grrr*
