Hi all,
My iPod's going to be arriving from FedEx in about 2 hours. I have a G4 here at work that I'd like to use to put some MP3s into the iPod, but will there be a problem if I then take the iPod home and try to synch with my Mac there? Are there ways around this? Also, what are my options for uploading/downloading MP3s from the iPod under Windows? Thanks.
Mike

There are a bunch of freeware utilities available to let you do this sort of thing. There are also utilities available to let you use the iPod with a PC, check out the OS X section of versiontracker.com, do a search for iPod and you should find what you're looking for.
Wait till you open the box, it's soooo sexy!

Well, to answer your first question, if you set up your iPod with your G4 at work, when you plug your Pod into your home computer you will be asked if you want to use that computer to synch up your iPod, which will then download all the songs off your home computer but erase any MP3s previously stored on the Pod. I know there are some utilties at www.versiontracker.com that will allow you to copy songs from one computer to another with an iPod, but I'm personally not sure how well they work. As far as synching up with a Windows PC, a program called Ephpod (you can find it at http://wso.williams.edu/~jmaster/ephpod/ ) should be able to help there...

There's a setting to let you "manually" administer the iPod in iTunes. (I don't know exactly where it is, I don't have access to a Mac right now, but I believe its where the iPod preferences are configured.
The bad part about his is that you need to remember to explicitly un-mount your iPod before unplugging it from firewire.
The good part is that it will let you load songs from multiple Macs onto your iPod. It just won't let you copy songs from one Mac to another.
Hope this helps!

The preference is in iTunes when the iPod is mounted (get info on the iPod I believe). This is also where you put it into FireWire disk mode and manual sync mode. Set to disk mode and copy the new mp3s to the iPod disk. Import into your playlist on the home unit. Then manually sync. This should work, but I haven't tried it yet (only had mine 3 days).
You have to manually eject the iPod before unplugging as stated before.
Enjoy!

Outlook is so stupid.
You can manually drag and drop your ENTIRE contact list to a directory and store them as individual contact files.
Sounds good, right?
The catch?
.msg files, not .vcf files. I have over 300 contacts (most are my high school graduating class). I can't do "Save as..." 300 times!
WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY????????????????
