after using my lexmark optra e312 for 18 months without any problems, a paper jammed the printer and the light indicating it stayed on even after resetting. i brought it to the lexmark repair center and they told me it wouldn't be a big repair. but today they told me it would cost 508.- because they had to change to system board.. i paid 499.- for the printer...

am i the only one being angry with this company??? i will never recommend lexmark.

I've always had good experiences with HP printers.

I gave up on HP when they couldn't be bothered with making a driver for the printer I bought just before installing Mac OS X; a DeskJet 640C. It took a whole [insert expletive here] year before they made one!

In the mean time I bought a Lexmark for one third the price of the HP, and has only run out of ink since.

So there. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" />

I have a Z53 that i got with my Quicksilver last summer. So far I've had no trouble at all with it, it prints decent quality and relatively quickly....but then, I do not make heavy use of the thing either.

On the other hand....at work we keep getting supplied with various Lexmark lasers...I can't stand them...finicky...unintuitive. I much prefer the HP 8000 series stuff for workgroup network printers.....way easier for me to provide support.

There is a reason for HP having %60 of the market for printers. By and large these printers (mostly the lasers) hold up for many years beyond what most would consider reasonable. I have a laser that I bought back in 1992 that was made by HP and it is still going strong. If you are in the market for a nice color laser then the new laserjet 4600 is the one I would recommend. If you need a black and white personal laser than I tend to lean towards the laserjet 2200. HP has just introduced some new 6 color inkjet printers that are aimed at the photo market. They are excellent.

I have a Lexmark z52, and its an amazing printer. I have no problems with it and I use it everyday. I just tried out the new z65, the thing is amazing. I have had only trouble with HP printers, the only printers I like from HP are there laser printers they simply don't die. But its mostly user preference.

At college we were all given lexmark printers. I don't know a single person whose printer did not break after about a year...tops. It would work fine and then not at all. Needless to say I have seen my fair share of Lexmarks being thrown from windows.

Before that breakdown I had never had a single problem (apart from frequent paper jams), I didn't use the printer heavily, only for edu purpose. It worked very fine in Os X from 10.1 too.

And the best has come last week: they want me to pay 100.- for the cost estimate if i don't want to have it repaired!!!

I bought a Z25. It came with no cords and no black ink, only color. This wasn't a mistake, thats really all it comes with. Well I had extra cords so that was ok, I went out and bought black ink, $30!!! Add that in and this cheap printer is no longer cheap! Well the bad news is that this ****ing printer WILL NOT print black. Before I had the black, the friggin printer not once told me i had no black ink, it simply doesn't print black, color prints, and black comes out white. Well I got my black ink and nothing has changed. Black just doesn't print.

Motti: I don't know what the e312 is, but if it's an inkjet (wholy moly is that an expisive fix). I have not liked the lexmark inkjets. Their Laser printers are good. Way less post script errors than an HP. Don't get me wrong, our HP4M+ printers have lasted way longer than a printer should (with the replacement of a few fuser units). HP takes about 1 minute to replace the fuser, the lexmark takes quit a bit longer.

I008.com : That's funny, I know somene who has that lexmark and can't print color, but can print black and white

For inkjets, you should buy Epsons. For Lasers I still have to give the edge to Lexmark because I really hate postscript errors.

I have an X83 hooked to my iMac. Under OS X it prints slooooooooow....takes like 10 mins to print 4 pages! I don't know if its the driver or what. The only reason I keep it is because I do not want to spend more money on a combo unit. When someone comes out with a cheaper wireless printer I may switch.

No, it was actually a laser. I recently read a review about how much a printed page on an inkjet costs, between 0.50 and 2€ !!

I am looking at Xerox, Brother (1470N) and Canon lasers, but I still haven't decided.

Avoid brother. I've got a brother and for every release of OS X (10.0, 10.1, 10.2) Brother has to update their driver. It takes about two months for them to do it. If you can avoid upgrading for two months when a new OS release comes, or avoid printing for two months, Brother's the one for you. Otherwise, look elsewhere.

I would get a Xerox if it had a network port and I could make sure it would work. Canon seems to be well supported by the drivers Apple ships OS X with.

Well, there is a reason Dell chose Lexmark to make Dell branded printers. I've used both HP and Xerox and they both make wonderful printers.
