How do i normalize the volume of my songs so that it isn't necessary to manually adjust the volume when going from songs by, say, Bikini Kill to Beethoven? is there software i need to add to Itunes? downloads? Do I need to re-rip my mp3's? help! thanks in advance

If you're talking about setting different volumes for different songs automatically then iTunes can do that for you. Set both your iTunes' and system volume to 50%. Then for each song you want to adjust the volume on click on the song and go to File...Get Info...Options and use the Volume Adjustment slide to lower or raise the volume as desired. The setting will remain in iTunes and will balance again the overall volume of the system and iTunes.

I did find that control, but is there a way to do it w/out manually adjusting each song? my nero pc software allowed me to select all the songs i was burning to cd & "normalize"-- it was done automatically. it may not have been the audiophile way to do it, but it sounded pretty good & now i'm dealing w/hundreds of songs, albums, volume levels. i'm open to 3rd party add ons.

Thanks again!

Check out:
MP3 Rage (cheap)
Bias Peak (not as cheap)

Both of these will let you do this in batch mode.
