My UMAX 6450 scanner crapped out on me, and after 2 months of trying to get a hold of them, I've decided to try to fix it myself. A resistor on the main circuit board seems to have burnt out, and is totally fried. I want to replace it, but can't tell what kind of resistor it is, as it is discolored from being burned. Could someone please tell me what kind of resistor is in SPOT R67 on the board, or at least the color of the stripes in order. The resistor is on the far end of the board from where the power supply/firewire inputs are. If no one knows, could anyone tell me where a good place to ask or find out may be?
Thanks a lot,
Chuck

Replacing the resistor may fix the problem, but it's likely that the new resistor will burn out, too. (The chances of it being a faulty resistor are next to nil.) Most likely, something else caused the resistor to burn out, and you need to fix that, too.

I understand that the resistor would probably burn out again. I just wish I had a clue as to what else is wrong. I've heard bad things about UMAX power supplies, but the weird thing is, the power supply is all the way on the other side of the board. I'm not very knowledgeable about these things, but it seems to me that if there was too much power going through, it would have burned other stuff out before it made it all the way across the board. I could be way off mark. Anyone have any ideas? I know without seeing it, it is a weird question, but I've read on the net many similar stories to mine with UMAX scanners, but no solution.
Thanks,
Chuck

PS. I still need to know what kind of resistor that one is
