Has anyone had any success interfacing an older SCSI Epson scanner such as the ES 800C with the new G3 B&W? I could not get Photoshop or Omnipage to recognize or find the scanner, though I have tried hooking the scanner up via the built in SCSI card and via Entegra's USB-to-SCSI adapter. Have used the latest Twain driver and Epson software. I updated Caere's scanner catalog in the extensions folder as suggested by Caere with no results. The computer itself seems to recognize the scanner- it at least goes thru a typical humming initialization routine during startup and comes up on the listing of devices using the SCSI Probe utility. I have been able to get Photoshop working using the latest Scantastic utility/driver, but still can't get Omnipage to admit that there is a scanner attached to the computer.

I use Adaptec 2960U to connect two scanners and two 50-pin SCSI HDs along with an internal SCSI HD (used for backups daily) with no trouble.

I don't trust any USB-SCSI and it can't come close to 5-10MB/sec speed.

One thing I did have to do (even on my old PowerMac) was to use smart SCSI active terminators. One for safe mode to switch scanners on/off rather than have to reboot or leave them on all the time. Another, APS SCSI Sentry II, to add power, monitor SCSI chain, add active termination. Also allows longer length than the 1.5 meter length and better signal with less loss or noise.

Cost was $99 plus cost of high density 50-pin SCSI cable to connect to the Adaptec card.

I hooked up an ES1200c to a B&W. It too would not work with the twain drivers. Epson is not sure if they plan to update them either.

The only way to get the scanner to be recognized is with the LaserSoft SilverFast software. That's what worked for me. So unless you got the LaserSoft SilverFast scanning software and plugin, you may have to buy it.
