I dunno what it's gonna look like, but my guess is it's gonna be quite big. 40 GB is nice though...

es of "iPod Killer!" to come out. That aside, a lot of us find Apple's designs appealing, and buy their goods based partly on that. The iPod is elegant, small, and easy to use. I'll keep mine around for quite some time.
Edit: The article says that 20GB can hold 8,000 songs, a lot since Apple promotes the 10GB iPod as being able to hold 2,000 songs. Some compression they've got there! I imagine it'll use a 2.5" hard drive, and the second battery bay makes it sound like a behemoth. Nice that they've got a "scroll wheel" to help with track navigation, real "Creative." Bah, bad pun.

Sorry buddy, there will be a 40 GB version, for $500. Read the article before posting irrelevant remarks.
I'd rather have a 30 GB iPod for $600, but at 10 GB on the iPod for $500 the Nomad does become an option for some. I hear the interface isn't that great on the older models though. If replicated on this model then it becomes less attractive. So it's either tiny form factor and better ease of use for $500, or else bigger machine with potentially poorer ergonomics and 4 times the disc space at the same price.

Well, it's good to see that Creative realized that 4 hours of battery life is a total joke. Too bad they still haven't realized that smaller is better. Also, they still seem confused by the belief that somehow more features necessarily equals better.
They're also totally confused about their market. They put features on there like this supposedly wonderful amplifier so that the sound will satisfy the most die-hard audiophiles (um, real audiophiles can hear mp3 compression and dislike it, last I checked) yet at the same time have ridiculous neophyte features like setting the echo level via presets like "jazz club" and "arena." Nobody who's really into audio wants anything to do with such nonsense features.
But hey, I'm sure PC users will like it and buy it - they always seem to be swayed by more features over better form and function.

Yeah, I don't see the point of jazz and arena, but then again I've rarely ever used even an equalizer for most stuff, but that's a big want of some iPod users I've noticed.
As for the MP3 compression, I find that once you get up to around 224 and up for MP3 (using Fraunhofer and normal stereo, not joint stereo), the sound quality is excellent for the vast majority of material. Too many assessments of MP3 quality are based on 192 or 160, or even 128 kbps MP3s, with joint stereo. The quality difference is very significant, especially with the <= 160 bitrate MP3s.
Anyways, that's why a big disk size is a big draw for me. I encode ALL of my MP3s now at 256 Kbps. Takes up a lot of space - I've got almost 30 GB now.

The 8000 song quote for the 20gb is probably based off WMA files at 64kbps, widely deemed better then MP3 at 128kbps by the industry.
I do like that Apple uses figures based on 160kbps rates. All my stuff is VBR with Lame, and averages 180-200.
