My iPod has stopped working - the boot screen appears for about 5 seconds and then the iPod resets itself. Again and again...

I have tried letting the battery run down, connecting it to the power source, connecting to my Mac and the 2-fingered salute.

Will Apple replace/fix it? I live in the UK and I did not buy it from Apple (got it from macwarehouse.co.uk). I have heard they are replacing broken ones to avoid any bad press relating to the iPod.

Is this true?

tried to hold down FF & REW as the iPod reboots? that sets it to Diagnostic mode with a little firewire icon, and you can plug it into a Mac to wipe the HD or whatever...that solved my problem where my iPod got stuck at the boot-screen (which i guess is almost exact opposite, but worth a try)
G4/450, T-bird 1.05GHz, iBook 500, iBook 233...4 different machines, 4 different OSes...(9, 2k, X.1, YDL2.2 respectively) PiA to maintain...

Thank you, that worked! My iPod is now functional again (it must have had a corrupt firmware). You have saved me from having to contact Apple and send my iPod away to be fixed. I even still have my data left on it (the HD was fine).

Perhaps this is something that should be on Apple's site.
