Does the new 1 year warranty apply to the current/old iPods or just the new?

My understanding is that Apple has extended the warranty to all iPods to one year. I believe you have to call Apple customer support on this or go into an Apple Store. Sucks for those that got burned by this. I wonder if anyone has tried to get a refund for repairs incurred during the 90 day BS coverage.
