I'm about to purchase a scanner, and have narrowed down (i think my choice to the canon D660U.

i'd be interested to hear from anyone who has used one.
whats the scanning software like to use?
any probs with mac os 9.0.4?
is it easy to set up custom scanning settings?

I'll be scanning prints for web work, and the odd print job (I'm assuming scanning a 35mm neg/slide on it will only produce something good enough for the web.... tell me if i'm wrong.)

I use the similar 1220u.

Most of the software didn't work for me, partly because I have a non-Apple USB card on my old Mac. The version of Omnipage I got was a useless stripped-down version that neither Canon nor Omnipage would support. The Photoshop plug-in works (but only with photoshop). It seems silly to bring in the 500 lb Photoshop elephant for a casual scan, but that's the only choice I have.

The hardware seems OK, and it sure is beautiful. Nice to be able to unplug the unit any time and put it on a bookshelf - out of the way.

Make sure you can return it if the software doesn't work.

Have you tried using the plug-in with Graphic Converter?
