I've just got an Iomega Predator CD-RW/USB. I can burn audio CD's through iTunes without any problems, but the bundled Toast 4.1.2 doesn't seem to be able to see the Predator. Also, if I insert a blank CD-R, I got a dialogue box saying that the media needs to be prepared but after continuing, I get an an error message stating that the 'startup disk is full'. What's going on here? Can't figure it out. Can anyone help? I'm using PB G3 '2000' and Mac OS 9.1 with all possible updates through the SW update.

I have a similar issue with the old ZipCD. I have no idea why Toast doesn't work — I have been wondering that myself. I have heard that deinstalling all of the apple stuff will do something but have not been able to test it myself (I have had the drive for only one day). As for the startup disk full message, discburner creates a full disc image and before it will let you burn. If you do not have about 660 megs free, it won't let you even start. Further, if you don't have the additional space for what you are trying to burn, it will quit shortly after it starts. Hope that helps at least part of your problem. I still couldn't see my drive after turning off discburner, so I think the problem lies with Authoring Support 1.1 making Toast blind to our drives…

I think that the Predator is basically just repacked Zip CD – at least it looks like that when you check the Apple System Profiler.

I actually got the Toast to see the drive by disabling 'USB Authoring Support' (nothing else) in the Extension Manager. In the Apple System Profiler you can then see that the driver for the CD-RW is Toast's driver and not Apple's 'USB Authoring Support' any more. After this I can use Toast but not iTunes for burning. I have to enable USB Authoring Support once again in order to use iTunes. This is quite annoying but better than nothing.

Of course: 'Startup disk full' means that the startup disk full, I just didn't realize this. I guess sometimes the error messages are actually accurate :-) Haven't had time to check this one yet, but it probably works. Thanks for pointing this out, drgarage!
