I have a Que!Fire 12x10x32 CDRW which up till now has worked like a charm. I never once got a coaster from this machine. But a couple of nights ago, I decided to make a CD, and while Toast 5.0.1 worked just fine, recognized the drive and everything, the moment I hit the record button, the light on the drive lit up and stayed lit. Toast did nothing. I didn't hear the drive spin up, and for about 10 minutes (way longer than I should have waited for what I was burning), I realized that I had a crash on my hands. I had to paperclip the CD out of the drive, and after I got the CD out, the light started flashing. Just flashing. I turned everything off and rebooted. I turned the drive off, and as soon as I turned it back on, the light started flashing continuously with no CD in the drive. The tray won't open when I hit the button, and the light won't stop flashing. It's driving me nuts.
I need help here. Has anyone seen this type of problem before? Can anyone help me? I have sent in a request for tech support at QPS, but haven't heard back from them yet. I would really appreciate any help anyone can give.
My stats: iMac DV 400 MHz, 512 MB RAM, MacOS 9.1, FireWire version 2.7. I have burned many successful CDs, audio and data, under OS 9.1 and Toast 5.0.1. This is the first problem I have had with this drive.
Thanks,
Michael

i've got the same burner (teac mech) and mine worked beautifully, until it stopped. the light flashes and the tray works, but now system profiler and toast won't recognize it. i tried EVERYTHING, then i tried it out with a friend's tower...nada. qps doesn't respond to my emails. my suggestion to you; if you can still return it to the vendor DO IT! then tell everyone you know to avoid their products. if people stop buying their junk they will get the message.

I have also had the same problem with my QPS! drive. I tried reinstalling my software with no success. The only way I have been able to work around it at this time was to swap my internal DVD drive with the Plextor mechanism. You may not want to do this as it will void your warranty on the QPS! drive. I have a G4/400. The DVD drive works in the QPS! case although I have not tried to watch a DVD on it. For now I am able to burn CDs without any trouble, although I would rather have things back the way they are supposed to be.

Can you call their tech support?
I own the 8x8x24 or 32 I don't remember what the read speed is, it works great.
I remember that when I got mine, they had an installer with a special QPS driver. That driver (extension) gave me all kinds of problems. I don't use their driver anymore, I only use the Toast software.

I too have experienced the EXACT same issues as mentioned above. My drive is currently inoperable...drawer does not open, status light continuously blinks.
I reported the issues to QPS via email (Support and Customer Service). It took about a week for their first response. I have inquired about the warranty and return policy and have not yet heard back from them...1 week and counting. The supoort on their site is pretty poor and the Customer Service has been equally dissappointing.

Hi again,
31310 -- thank you so much for that tip. I can't believe the service!
I emailed her, and she called me, on the phone, a day later. I told her my problem again, she put a tech on the phone, and they told me to look at the power cord itself. If the connector pins on the cord are silver, the power cable is bad and can be replaced. If the pins are gold, there is something else wrong. Also check the power cable to see if there is a light flashing or not. (This is all the tech said. He didn't really elaborate.)
Even though I'm at work posting this, I wanted to put this out there for everyone else to see. She told me to e-mail her back with the results, and she can help me further.
After reading about everyone else's travails with QPS, I was not expecting this at all. I'm really surprised to get a response back that quickly and with that much willingness to help. I know it sounds corny, but it really does make me believe in the company. Again, thanks for the advice.
