Wouldn't it be cool if Apple partnered with Netflix to allow you to download like 2 movies at a time to store on the Apple TV hard drive and be viewed for as long as you want and when your done you erase the movies and Netflix uploads the next movies on your list directly to your Apple TV

It would be. Amazon recently announced something along this line with Tivo. Serious competition to the Apple TV IMO ... especially since it enables a movie rental option that the latter is lacking.

Wow, I'd really like this! Download at night, then no more cost to Netflix for mailing. Just server cost and maintenance.

I'm sure Apple would say, "Why do we need Netflix?"

If the studio gives them permission to distribute a film, that's it. Apple can distribute it.

Cool idea but doubt Apple would ever partner with Netflix because it would destroy their sales on movies on iTunes. Perfect solution though—Netflix, Blockbuster, they are all so slow. money is going to postage when it all could be automated.

That sounds like a good idea (or more likely, Apple would do it on their own, since I don't really see why Netflix needs to come into the equation). But Apple hasn't shown much interest in renting content (or in subscription services), and allowing rentals might affect the sales of their movies, so it's probably unlikely.

Isn't net bandwidth tons cheaper than the physical mailing infrastructure that Netflix has to maintain?

On the slowest broadband DSL connection, like 384kbps (yes I know...), you could download a 1GB movie in 5 and half hours. Perfect for overnight downloads.
