I am considering buying a Macbook Pro, and wondering if it will work with my Dell 1900FP LCD monitor. The monitor came with a single-link DVI-D cable, but I understand the Mac has a dual-link port.

Is it just matter of buying a DVID-D dual-link cable?

The dual link DVI pins effectively double the power of transmission and provide an increase of speed and signal quality; i.e. a DVI single link 60-Hz LCD can display a resolution of 1920 x 1080, while a DVI dual link can display a resolution of 2048 x 1536.

Wich means you need a DVI dual link cable (and appropriate graphic card) when you want to hook up a monitor like Apple or Dell's 30 inches. For your Dell 1900FP LCD a simple DVI single link cable will do the trick.
