The little store had USB scanners on special. I missed a ferry to get there, and then found I had only _thought_ they said on the phone it was Mac compatible. The tech person we phoned, at a nearby Mac store, was sure I could download a driver from VersionTracker; he said it was called USB Overdrive. But the server was acting up at the local ISP, so we couldn't verify it. So after I took home the Plustek OpticPro U12, I learned USB Overdrive will drive mice, joysticks, graphic pads, and even cameras, but not a scanner.

(At the same little store I found the price I'd been waiting for on a JamC@m, which I _knew_ works on this machine - but it turns out it needs OS8.5.1 and I was running 8.5. But I'm going to 8.6 now...)

Is there any hope for me to make this USB scanner work with my USB (rev. A) iMac?

there's no Mac drivers on the US website or the German site.

You should return it and check out the Acer Prisa scanners if you need a low cost scanner.

Fortunately, it looks as though I have a neighbour who wants it - at $50 Canadian (tax included) for 600x1200 colour it wasn't too hard to find a buyer.

Thanks. I'll keep my eye on the Acer Prisa line.
