So I finally convinced my boyfriend to set up his old synthesizer that he got about ten years ago. It's been fun to play around on, but I looked up on the manufacturer's site, and the only way to connect it to a computer is via a 9-pin mini-DIN or a DB25 serial cable.

I'd like to find some way, if at all possible, to connect this thing to his 12" PowerBook G4, via USB or FireWire. If all else fails, and I really want to get into this thing, I'll just get a cheap-ass desktop with a serial port on eBay and do everything in Windows XP.

So. It's an Alesis QS7 synth. Are there any economical solutions for connecting something this old to a computer with no serial or MIDI ports? Even if I can get the physical connection, do I have a chance in hell of being able to get data off the keyboard onto the computer to play around with it?

Thanks in advance...
