I was in Puerto Rico last weekend for a little R&R, and was lying on a chaise when i noticed some dolphins swimming a few hundred feet off shore....immediately, my mind shot to that crazy-ass indulgent video Gun's and Roses made for their song 'Estranged'
I don't know if you remember it but somewhere about 8 minutes (!) into the video Axl jumps off an oil tanker (!) and plunges into the sea to swim amongst the dolphins.....right at that moment, he grabs one - it swims away with him holding it's dorsal fin, and Slash begins his 14th guitar solo of the song....
Sorry, where was i.....
Oh yea... so, luckily i had my iPod in my backpack and i pulled it out to listen to that exact song and when i tried to turn the jog dial to select the 11 minute opus, a grain of sand was crushed in its gears and turned to dust -- when i realized how damaging sand can be to an iPod, i immediately decided to put the thing back in bag and save it for a less sandy place to use it - like the nice safe Airplane (sans hijackers or shoe-bomb guys).
When i looked in the compartment to put it back, I noticed that there was a bunch of sand that had gotten in the pouch and was collected in the opposite corner of the compartment from where i took the iPod out.
Man, if more than a few grains had moved across that pouch and gotten into the jog dial, that iPod would have been flat-out f**cked!.
Word of warning - keep your iPod off the beach!
Thanks Axl, and please (for god's sake!) finish and release "Chinese Democracy"
<< Some day i'll have to tell you the story of how Slash got me into 'Scores' strip club in NYC .... But that's for another day >>>
