Okay, I have an old eMac with firewire ports, and USB 1.1 ports. I have a few devices (iPod video included) that only function via USB. They are capable of using the speeds provided by USB 2.

Do the USB/Firewire combo hubs out there do all the data transfer through a firewire connection? Or do the hubs take up two ports on the computer 1 usb, and 1 firewire?

Basically, I want to get USB 2 speed through a firewire port. Do these devices do that?

I can't get hard and fast data from the companies' web sites. It is a little cryptic. I am running the latest version of OS X.

Two potential products:
Mini Stack: NewerTech miniStack FireWire and USB Hub and Hard Drive up to 750GB at OtherWorldComputing.com
Belkin Hub: Belkin : Hi-Speed USB 2.0 and FireWire 6-Port Hub for Mac mini

No, the Firewire ports are hubbed off the Firewire uplink and the USB ports are hubbed off the USB uplink.
There are no generic USB to Firewire converters.
Buy a computer designed for the 21st century.
Mac update estimates: MacBook Pro 1Q10 (quad core Nehalem [Clarksfield]); MacBook 1Q10 (Arrandale); MacBook Air 1Q10 (Arrandale LV); Mac Pro/Xserve 1Q10 (6 core Westmere, 64+GB RAM); iMac 3Q10 (quad core everywhere); Mac mini 2010

Now I remember why I don't post at macnn anymore. I can't get a question answered with out a snide comment.

FYI: The iMacs still have a lot of life left in 'em. I am a school teacher, and my students can still do some pretty cool on a G3 500 Mhz iMac (which I purchased for $20 on craigslist).
