I am looking for a second hard drive to move my mp3 files onto. I am looking at the new Maxtor 160GB Personal Storage 3000XT. The documentation says "Mac OS 8.6 or higher." Has anyone had any experience with this drive? If yes, is the Maxtor Personal Storage 3000XT compatible with Mac OS X?

If I am not mistaken, current Macs can access only 130 GB on that drive. There was somebody over at Appleinsider who ran into that problem.

it's not a mac issue as such, since it depends on what IDE controller card you're using with the drive. most cards don't fully support large drives like the maxtor 160 GB. however, there is a card on the market that does. you can find the details here.

I saw something at Firewire Depot (I think) about a compatibility problem, and that Maxtor is working on a firmware fix. I'm planning on buying a Firewire drive myself but I'm going to play it safe and get a 120 GB.
