Hi , i am planning on upgrading to a new mid-range G4 after the summer mac expo. My question is
"What apart from the asthetics of the Apple 17" are the reasons why i should not buy a LaCie 19" Electron Blue II display instead".
I will be using this system mostly for gameing and some PS applications.
Thanks
Makor

I say stay away from the Apple 17" Studio Display. I have had nothing but blurry text and geomotery problems with it. I just got a replacement and I'm still having the same problems.

Makor at first I thought you were kidding.
The LaCie electron monitors are usually utilized for High End graphics workstations, I believe they come bundled with color calibrators (Might be wrong there), and I'd always thought they were ALOT pricier, but I just took a peek and see the 19" your'e talking about is only $599.00 at their website which is a pretty good buy for such a monitor I'd think.
I've never actually used one but I've heard they're among the best. I'd probably go with the LaCie over an Apple display. I mean if your'e planning on shelling out that kinda $$$ for a monitor for games, you might-as-well go for the LaCie.
Myself? I'd probably just get a ViewSonic, Optiquest or Princeton 17" or 19" if it was just for gaming, and save a few hundred bucks, but then again I'm not a gamer.

I'm looking to get myself a G4 too, and a reasonably priced 17" or above monitor.
But researching in this area has made me rather gloomy...if I don't get an Apple Studio Display, do I have to settle for a beige box? Is there nothing more Apple-ish out there?
Looks are important: I'm going to be staring at this thing every day, and graphite and beige just do not go...

hum... I'd go with the Apple displays...
I know people don't like them on this forum, but I find them to be really good. I've got 2 of them from 1996 still up and running everyday! (They are old AppleVision 17" CRT displays, which is the same as todays 17" Apple Displays).
And for the looks, you can't beat them!

Thanks, babble, for supporting the decision I really wanted to make!
I'm leaving a few days to ruminate further, though; I keep changing my mind. But most displays don't look like Macs.
I have a Macally keyboard and mouse that, if not quite up to Apple standards, are at least transparent; I'm surprised that monitor manufacturers haven't taken this step too.
