I have a new Canon Pixma MP600 printer connected to my PC (works fine). I have a wireless router set up at home. MacBook (os x 10.4.8) has access to the network...no problem.
It took me several days, but I have finally been able to set up the mac so that it can access the printer.

Problem: While I can access the printer wirelessly with the mac, I am not able to access the proper printer driver. So, the print...or pictures...do not print as they appear on the screen of my macbook.

I've installed the software on the mac from the canon disk...I've tried downloading drivers...whenever I look for the new driver in the printer set up utility, my new printer is not there.

Here is the question: How do I find the newly installed driver?

Good question - did you ever get anywhere with this?

It's all about the drivers. If Canon's drivers don't support networked printing, you're in trouble. There are often other routes, though: look up "OS X network printing" on Google and find out all about CUPS. Don't count on getting a usable driver for more than basic printing though.
